This glossary will be focused around my field of study which is teacher. In my glossary I will talk about twenty words that describe the profession of teaching.

Example: However, some experts criticise that the advisory services are too focused towards technical issues and too little oriented towards economic and policy ADVICE (IAMO 1 , 2004).

A room, typically in a school, in which a class of students is taught.
Example: Introduction Second Language Acquisition (SLA) can be defined as the process by which "people learn a language other than their mother tongue, inside or outside of a CLASSROOM" (Ellis, 1997: 3).

Example: Truly, this is overly dependent on sources that are probably more 'DIDACTIC in...nature' then reflective of actual relations between spouses.

The process of receiving or giving systematic instruction, especially at a school or university.
Example: Why Adult EDUCATION? "Adult EDUCATION is the field of EDUCATIONal science (pedagogics) that involves the conceptualisation and research of adult EDUCATION and learning" (Arnold, 2005:7). Adult EDUCATION is an integral part of life-long EDUCATION and can contribute decisively to economic and cultural development, social progress and world peace, as well as the development of EDUCATIONal systems (Townsend Coles, 1977:158).

Advice or information aimed at resolving a problem or difficulty, especially as given by someone in authority.
Example: In 1997 the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a special 'GUIDANCE' allowing pharmaceutical companies to market prescription drugs directly to consumers.

An amount of teaching given at one time; a period of learning or teaching.
Example: A slight disadvantage in Cutting Edge is the length and complexity of the LESSON (9 pages).

Example: Communication is a part of every function of MANAGEMENT and without communication the manager would not be able to explain plans, share visions or implement changes.

mathematics

The abstract science of number, quantity, and space. Mathematics may be studied in its own right ( pure mathematics ), or as it is applied to other disciplines such as physics and engineering ( applied mathematics ).

An institution for educating children.
Example: Handy (1999) identifies seven different approaches which include scientific management at one end of the scale and also, for example, the Human Relations SCHOOL (Barnard, 1938) the Technology SCHOOL (Woodward, 1965) and most recently the Institutional SCHOOL which combines all of the approaches. Perhaps the most applicable to this organisation is the Socio-Technical SCHOOL proposed by Rosenfeld and Wilson (1999) who have simplified and combined the seven SCHOOLs into three - Scientific Management, Human Relations and Socio-Technical.

An educational institution designed for instruction, examination, or both, of students in many branches of advanced learning, conferring degrees in various faculties, and often embodying colleges and similar institutions.
Example: Downwards communication may also be used, which would include things such as when my son is back from UNIVERSITY and therefore able to help out on the farm.
